The Roaring Fork Valley is upgrading its wildfire detection with new AI-powered panoramic cameras at Crown Mountain in Basalt. These cameras, part of the Pano AI system, rotate 360 degrees and can detect fires up to 10 miles away under any conditions. This installation at Crown Mountain is the ninth in a network that stretches from Glenwood to Aspen. Funded by the Roaring Fork Valley Wildfire Collaborative and a donation, the technology enables faster deployment of firefighting resources and enhances monitoring capabilities, crucial in a region facing increasing wildfire risks due to climate change. According to the Roaring Fork Valley Wildfire Collaborative Executive Director, the solution represents a significant investment in technology, but it costs half as much as employing a person.
