In the UK, Water utility Severn Trent is creating a smart water hub in Birmingham and its surroundings, aiming to install 250,000 smart water meters by March 2025 across Birmingham, Leicestershire, and parts of Shropshire. The scheme includes upgrading 125,000 existing meters and installing new ones for another 125,000 customers. The project complements 150,000 installations in Coventry and Warwickshire, enhancing customer control over water consumption and improving leak detection. The initiative is part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery program, a £566 million investment in water supply managements. Customers with smart meters will have access to a digital platform for detailed consumption data and personalized reports to help reduce use and bills.
