Italian utility AcegasApsAmga has begun a project using Siemens’ Gridscale X technology to enhance power grid monitoring in Trieste. The initiative supports the city’s electrification strategy, aimed at reducing pollution from the Port of Trieste, one of Europe’s busiest ports.
The project involves creating a digital twin of Trieste’s grid to manage congestion from increasing distributed energy resources (DERs) and high energy demands from port operations. Siemens’ software will help ensure stable power supply for ships, as the port handles over 70 million tons of cargo annually.
AcegasApsAmga has partnered with Siemens for over a century, using its SCADA and ADMS systems for grid optimization. The new Gridscale X deployment should further aid decarbonization efforts by simulating grid conditions, predicting congestion, and optimizing energy distribution.
The collaboration aims to improve grid reliability while supporting Trieste’s sustainability goals.
