The Madrid-region public water utility Canal de Isabel II, S.A. has awarded a contract valued at just over €30 million to telecommunications operators Telefónica, S.A. and Vodafone España, S.A.U. for the supply and connectivity of smart water meters across the region.
Under the deal, View:
-
Telefónica secured seven of nine lots, with an approximate value of €25 million.
-
Vodafone took the remaining two lots, worth over €5.5 million.
-
The contract covers a rollout period of up to five years.
-
It forms part of the broader digital transformation of water-cycle management by Canal de Isabel II, which serves more than six million residents in the region.
The devices being installed will incorporate pressure sensors and NB-IoT (Narrow Band-Internet of Things) communication, enabling automated remote meter reading and real-time consumption monitoring.
One earlier phase of the programme had Vodafone supply 315,000 smart meters and connectivity over five years for more than €25 million.
The initiative is expected to enhance resource distribution, reduce unregistered consumption and enable advanced customer services such as usage alerts and alternative billing models.
