The Data Communications Company (DCC) has awarded contracts to IBM UK, CGI, Netcompany, and Vodafone to modernize Britain’s smart meter network. The upgrade follows an 18-month competitive procurement process aimed at improving cost efficiency and technological capabilities.
The project focuses on enhancing the Data Service Provider (DSP) platform, which manages communication between smart meters, energy suppliers, and network operators. The system supports essential functions, including prepayment top-ups and data collection for billing and energy management.
The upgraded platform is expected to improve security, stability, and flexibility while supporting the UK’s transition to net zero. DCC is collaborating with the selected firms to design, build, and test the new infrastructure.
