The city of Viña del Mar is enhancing public security by upgrading its municipal surveillance system. The initiative will increase the number of cameras from 122 to 181 and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to better detect criminal activities and manage emergencies. This system aims to improve coordination with law enforcement and maintain high-quality image recording to assist in criminal investigations.

The system will feature 181 strategically placed cameras, including new panoramic, contextual, and license plate recognition models, which expand viewing capabilities and integrate with AI software for detailed environmental analysis. The AI will analyze video feeds in real time to identify potential criminal activities such as loitering, unauthorized entries, and other suspicious behaviors. It can also detect emergencies like fires or large gatherings, triggering alerts to the appropriate agencies.

Additionally, the system includes public address systems and intercoms that facilitate communication between the monitoring center and the community, ensuring 24/7 responsiveness. This comprehensive approach should not only improves incident detection and response times but also supports the coordination of municipal resources aiming to enhance overall public safety management in collaboration with police and emergency services.
