Wessex Water has secured £2 million in funding from the Ofwat Innovation Fund to lead the creation of a UK-wide Rainwater Management Platform. The digital tool aims to improve rainwater treatment and efficiency while reducing pollution and carbon emissions.

Supported by all UK and Irish water companies, the platform will replace the outdated Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) Manual with a modern, adaptable resource. Experts from various sectors will contribute to the project, which seeks to enhance biodiversity and water sustainability.

The initiative aligns with government efforts to prevent rainwater from mixing with sewage, a major cause of system overflows. Wessex Water emphasized the need for better rainwater management amid changing climate patterns.
