Wrexham Council has announced the installation of new air quality monitors across the city, funded by a £74,281 grant from the Welsh Government’s Local Air Quality Management Support Fund. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance local air quality monitoring in a sustainable manner.
The monitors will be connected via LoRaWAN gateways. This system will track levels of particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and environmental noise.
The data collected will be integrated into the Smart Town scheme, providing real-time air quality updates to the public. This will help residents make informed decisions about travel and outdoor activities, aligning with public health campaigns and educational programs.
The system should also assist in planning and protecting green spaces. The project aims to enhance both the physical and mental wellbeing of the community by ensuring better air quality and environmental awareness.
