Xcel Energy has started the installation of 200,000 smart meters across North and South Dakota, with 100,000 in each state. The scheme is part of a broader smart meter rollout that Xcel Energy is conducting across its service territories, including Colorado, Minnesota, Texas and Wisconsin, with plans for New Mexico and Michigan. The meters, supplied by Itron under a 2019 agreement, are being installed by Olameter. The projectset to modernize the grid, should enable customers to access real-time consumption data and ease service restoration post-storms.
