Yunex Traffic has signed a framework agreement with Newcastle City Council to supply and maintain a cutting-edge Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) enforcement camera system. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance bus service reliability, and encourage greater use of public transport across the city.
The project will see the deployment of Yunex Traffic’s Secore II and LaneWatch ANPR cameras to enforce key traffic rules, including red routes, yellow box junctions, and bus lanes. These measures are part of Newcastle City Council’s traffic management strategy under the expanded enforcement powers granted to local authorities by Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act.
Fully integrated with Newcastle City Council’s Imperial 3-Sixty parking management system, the ANPR cameras streamline traffic enforcement and low-emission zone management. The system also supports Yunex Traffic’s Web Review Client solution, enhancing efficiency with “one-click” processing of violations, reducing operational costs.
As part of the initial phase, LaneWatch cameras will be installed near Newcastle Airport to prevent unsafe and illegal parking along the red route from the A696 roundabout to Callerton Lane. Vehicles stopping in restricted areas could face penalty charges, addressing long-standing concerns about road safety and congestion caused by vehicles waiting to drop off or pick up passengers. Drivers are encouraged to use the airport’s designated free parking areas.
Yunex Traffic’s solutions are part of a broader effort to promote sustainable urban mobility while tackling traffic-related challenges in growing cities like Newcastle. The framework aims to bring safer streets and smoother commutes to the city’s residents and visitors alike.
