The Bassa Reggiana Union in Italy has been awarded €500,000 in funding through a regional grant for “advanced” municipal unions, aimed at supporting smart city initiatives. The funds will be used to implement innovative technologies across member municipalities.
Key projects include installing environmental sensors for real-time air quality monitoring, smart lighting systems, automated license plate recognition cameras, robotic lawn mowers for public parks, and digital information kiosks to improve citizen engagement.
The Bassa Reggiana Union is one of only two in the Reggio Emilia province classified as “advanced,” managing over 12 shared services. The regional funding highlights the strategic role of such unions in fostering inter-municipal cooperation and innovation.
