CityFibre has acquired the full fibre infrastructure of Connexin, including built and in-progress network assets, as part of a move to consolidate the UK’s independent fibre sector. The deal expands CityFibre’s reach by up to 185,000 premises in Hull and East Riding.
Connexin’s shareholder, PATRIZIA’s European Infrastructure Fund II, will become a minority stakeholder in CityFibre. Additionally, CityFibre will take over Connexin’s Project Gigabit contract, extending gigabit broadband to over 34,000 hard-to-reach homes in Nottinghamshire and West Lincolnshire. This marks CityFibre’s tenth Project Gigabit contract, with potential expansion to 50,000 non-subsidised premises.
The integration of Connexin’s XGS-PON network is set to begin immediately, further growing CityFibre’s nationwide infrastructure, which already covers 4.4 million premises. Meanwhile, Connexin will focus on expanding its IoT services, including smart water meter contracts and a large-scale LoRaWAN network.
This follows CityFibre’s acquisition of Lit Fibre in May 2024, which was fully integrated within nine months.
