Dortmund has rolled out a new citywide network of 76 climate monitoring stations to track urban heat stress in real time.
Developed under the “Data2Resilience” project by Ruhr University Bochum, the system aims to support early detection of heat events and inform long-term climate adaptation strategies.
Data collected will feed into Dortmund’s heat action planning, smart city initiatives, and public-facing digital tools like an interactive dashboard. Supported by ICLEI and Smart City Dortmund, the project also included local case studies and citizen engagement to better understand temperature impacts across neighborhoods.
