The German city of Dortmund plans to digitize bridge monitoring with a smart sensor-based system, currently being tested on the B1 bridge at Wittekindstraße with 26 sensors recording tilt, temperature, and structural integrity. With the scheme, the city is looking to continuously survey and proactively maintain the infrastructure, enhancing safety and extending the bridges’ lifespan. Additional bridges will have sensors installed by mid-year, as part of the city’s move towards smarter infrastructure management.
