EnBW Utility Services has selected Robotron Datenbank-Software GmbH to implement its Controllable Local Systems (CLS) management platform, following a competitive EU-wide tender. The software will optimize grid operations as distributed energy resources—such as electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, and solar panels—proliferate.

What Are Controllable Local Systems (CLS)?

CLS refers to remotely managed devices that help balance electricity grids by adjusting power consumption or generation in real time. This includes:

  • Demand-side flexibility (e.g., delaying EV charging or heat pump operation during peak demand).

  • Distributed generation control (e.g., regulating solar inverters or battery storage to prevent grid overload).

  • Automated congestion management to avoid blackouts and reduce infrastructure costs.

The system ensures compliance with EU energy regulations, which mandate smart grid integration for a sustainable power transition. Robotron’s solution stood out for its technical robustness and scalability.

EnBW’s adoption of the software aims to benefit its service customers—including grid operators—by improving efficiency, meeting legal requirements, and supporting future energy market growth. The move highlights the increasing role of digital solutions in modernizing power networks.
