Granada has secured over €10.5 million in interest-free loans from Spain’s Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) to modernize municipal street lighting.
The funding, part of a national initiative to improve energy efficiency, will support the replacement of 11,000 streetlights across 270 streets with advanced LED technology and remote management systems. The city’s project, ranked among the top in Spain, will raise LED coverage in Granada’s public lighting to nearly 60%, delivering estimated energy savings of €1.05 million annually.
Similar upgrades will be carried out in Huéscar and Iznalloz, which will receive €1.5 million and €1 million respectively. The upgrades are aligned with Granada’s broader urban sustainability strategy and are expected to reduce emissions, enhance safety, and lower operational costs.
