Itron has teamed up with Microsoft to integrate generative AI (Gen AI) Copilot technology into its Intelligent Edge Operating System (IEOS), aiming to streamline utility operations. The collaboration should enable utilities to use natural language queries for data analysis, reducing reliance on technical expertise.
The AI-powered platform, built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, should allow utilities to access insights from electricity, gas, water, and renewable energy data. Key features include customer consumption analysis, data quality improvement, and cross-departmental reporting. The solution is set for global release in Q2 2025.
The integration is expected to simplify complex data interactions, enhance decision-making, and improve operational efficiency without requiring advanced coding skills from users. Itron’s IEOS will support applications like Meter Data Management and Operations Optimizer aiming to provide utilities with faster access to critical analytics.
