Oxford has been chosen as the first of three UK cities to receive a city-wide 5G small cell network upgrade in 2025. The project, led by mobile infrastructure provider Cornerstone in collaboration with Signify and Dense Air, will use existing street lighting to improve mobile connectivity.

Small cells, compact radio base stations with a limited range, are designed to boost coverage in high-traffic urban areas. The initiative aims to provide faster, more reliable mobile data for businesses, residents, and visitors.

Similar deployments are planned for two additional UK cities later this year, though further details have not yet been disclosed. The project is expected to support economic growth and strengthen digital infrastructure.
