The Piedmont Region has announced a new call for proposals aimed at improving energy efficiency and advancing the smart transition of public lighting networks. The initiative, funded by €12.75 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), will open on March 3, 2025.

The program targets the Metropolitan City of Turin, Provinces, Municipalities, Unions of Municipalities, Mountain Unions, and temporary groupings of Municipalities in Piedmont. For the first time, Provinces are included as beneficiaries, enabling them to upgrade their public lighting systems.

Projects must incorporate at least one “smart” community service, such as traffic control systems, urban mobility solutions, video surveillance, weather and air quality monitoring, smart parking, electronic information panels, or free Wi-Fi services.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce energy consumption, enhance environmental sustainability, and promote innovation. It complements other measures, including plans to support Energy Communities and extend energy efficiency improvements to sports facilities. The region aims to help local administrations cut energy costs by at least 50%.
