Portsmouth Water has selected infrastructure and utilities contractor Cappagh to deliver two major AMP8 contracts valued at £136.5 million, following a competitive tender process.

Covering the period from 2025 to 2030, with potential extension to 2035, the contracts include large-scale smart water meter installation and a broader infrastructure upgrade programme.

Starting in August, Cappagh will oversee the deployment of 170,000 smart meters by 2030 and ensure full coverage by 2033, enabling improved leak detection and customer water usage monitoring. The infrastructure works will involve water main renewals, network repairs, service connections, and permanent reinstatements.

Both parties will co-locate staff at Portsmouth Water’s Havant headquarters to facilitate delivery of the company’s long-term investment strategy.
