Verizon’s Edge Transportation Exchange, a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication platform, has secured partnerships with the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), Rutgers University, and Volkswagen Group of America. The platform enables real-time data sharing between vehicles, infrastructure, and pedestrians to improve road safety.

The system uses 5G, LTE, and geolocation technology to support applications such as hazard alerts, traffic signal coordination, and pedestrian detection. By reducing reliance on roadside hardware, it aims to lower costs for governments and automakers.

Arizona is testing pedestrian safety features, while Delaware is evaluating red-light warnings and flood alerts. Volkswagen is exploring toll payment automation, and Rutgers is developing school-zone safety solutions at its smart mobility test site.

The platform is designed to scale existing connected vehicle solutions and support future innovations in transportation safety.
