Context

Nova Veolia, a subsidiary of Veolia, sought to strengthen its role as a key enabler in the digital transformation of urban services. In partnership with Bouygues Energies & Services, Nova Veolia aimed to design a Smart City platform capable of integrating data streams from various public services and infrastructure.

The goal was to define and prioritize impactful, actionable use cases to shape the platform’s functional roadmap, define Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and align operational stakeholders

Challenge

  • Aligning diverse operators’ needs with the capabilities of a shared Smart City platform.
  • Translating real-world urban challenges into concrete, data-driven operational scenarios.
  • Ensuring interoperability between existing digital systems from Veolia, Bouygues, and city partners.
  • Structuring a scalable, modular approach that could be replicated across multiple territories.

Deliverables & Outcomes

Kurrant led the strategic definition of 20+ Smart City use cases, structured across three core categories:

  • Planning & Anticipation
  • e.g. preparation for public works, cultural/sporting events, climate risks
  • use of predictive insights for resource deployment
  • Observatory Functions
  • e.g. mobility monitoring, carbon footprint tracking, sound pollution mapping
  • data aggregation and visualization for urban performance management

In addition to use cases design, Kurrant provided a detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) framework, outlining: Trigger mechanisms, Stakeholder responsibilities, Integration with third-party services

This work enabled Nova Veolia to align all partners on functional priorities, structure platform development around high-value services, demonstrate leadership in Smart City innovation and urban resilience.
