An EDF-led consortium for the EVVE project is expanding, adding seven new partners to accelerate the deployment of 800 vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging stations across Europe. Launched in 2021 under the leadership of EDF Group, the EVVE project—Environmental Valorisation of Virtual Energy storage—aims to reduce CO2 emissions by utilizing electric vehicles to store low-carbon electricity.
Seven new partners—Altra (IVECO Group), BNP Paribas Mobility (represented by Arval and BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions), Enedis, IZIVIA, Nuvve, Stellantis, and Volkswagen Group France—have joined EDF and Dreev in this effort. The partners are committed to installing bidirectional charging points in several European countries, including France, with the goal of deploying 800 chargers.
Supported by the European Union’s Innovation Fund, the EVVE project aims to demonstrate that by using V2G technology, electric vehicles can contribute to grid stability by charging during periods of abundant renewable electricity and feeding power back to the grid during peak demand. The chargers use technology developed by Dreev to intelligently manage charging based on electricity availability and price.
To date, 250 V2G chargers have been deployed, primarily in France and Denmark. This initiative is creating a virtual power plant with a capacity of over 8 MW, expected to avoid nearly 25,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
This expansion in the consortium aims to facilitate the adoption of V2G functionalities across Europe, helping both electric vehicle users and electricity systems become more efficient and environmentally friendly.
