To improve local mobility and support its Climate Action Plan, Rixensart is set to acquire ten advanced traffic counters equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). These Telraam devices, to be installed voluntarily by residents in their street-facing windows, will gather detailed data on traffic patterns, including vehicle types, user counts, and speeds across various locations.

The initiative aims to encourage ‘active modes’ of transportation, like walking and cycling, by ensuring a safe and car-free environment for all residents. By collecting extensive traffic and speed data, the commune intends to create a balanced sharing of space and maintain low traffic speeds.

This initiative has already proven effective in other Belgian localities and Rixensart now seeks community support to deploy these devices.
