EIB Funds €80 Million Smart Meter Upgrade in Serbia

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted an €80 million loan to Elektrodistribucija Srbije to replace 400,000 outdated electromechanical meters with smart meters. This is part of a broader effort to modernize Serbia’s electricity grid, reducing losses, improving billing accuracy, and supporting renewable energy integration. The project, co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU, aims to enhance energy efficiency and infrastructure reliability.
