The City of Sydney has embarked on a large-scale project to upgrade its streetlighting infrastructure with IoT-enabled LED technology. Spanning an initial five-year period and valued at up to $3 million, the agreement includes options to extend for up to nine years, potentially increasing its value to $5 million.

The project in partnership with Traffic Technologies focuses on replacing aging LED streetlights, enhancing network growth, and ensuring ongoing renewals and maintenance across the city’s local government and central business district areas. With over 16,000 streetlights under its jurisdiction, the City of Sydney wants to improve its urban lighting and energy efficiency significantly.

The vendor behind the rollout, Traffic Technologies , views this partnership as a pivotal opportunity to showcase its next-generation products. Following a challenging 2024 that included delays in government projects and financial constraints, the company has restructured its operations and finances to enhance efficiency. Efforts such as consolidating production facilities and optimizing manufacturing processes have yielded significant cost savings, positioning the company for improved performance in the coming year.
