The city of Modena has approved a plan to upgrade its public lighting and traffic light systems through a nine-year management contract. The municipal government will soon launch a public tender for the project, with an estimated total cost of over €52 million. Services are expected to begin in early 2026, with Hera Spa managing operations until then.
The new contract will require annual costs to be lower than previous expenses and must adhere to environmental standards, including sourcing at least 50% of energy from renewable sources. The plan also includes technological improvements such as transitioning to LED lighting, implementing remote monitoring systems, upgrading pedestrian crossings near schools and bus stops, and enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities.
Additional features include energy efficiency measures, modernized electrical systems, and smart city integration. The contract covers maintenance, emergency services, and future expansions to accommodate urban development. The city emphasizes uniform service quality, transparency, and sustainability in the project’s execution.
