ATCO Leads Alberta’s Smart Meter Upgrade

Alberta utility ATCO, with Canadian government support, is leading grid modernization projects in Alberta, Canada, installing advanced metering and management systems. The initiatives involve deploying 230,000 smart meters in 190 communities to enhance energy stability and reduce emissions, targeting a 22t CO2 reduction annually. The project is financed by the Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Programme, allocating up to $3.3 billion by 2035 for renewable energy and grid modernization initiatives.
