Poland’s Enea Operator will install 273,000 smart meters in 2025, backed by PLN 163 million (€37 million) in co-financing from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The total project cost is PLN 242 million (€55 million). The rollout will see 200,000 meters installed in rural areas and 73,000 in urban regions of northwestern Poland.
This initiative is part of Enea’s broader strategy to deploy 2.4 million smart meters, enhancing grid efficiency and supporting Poland’s energy transition toward a low-carbon economy. The project also involves the purchase and implementation of smart metering infrastructure, which should help optimize network operations and improve electricity market processes.
In addition to this grant, Enea Operator has secured funding from the European Investment Bank, further bolstering its efforts to modernize the distribution network and manage the vast amounts of data generated by the new meters.
