Heraklion’s ongoing parking challenges may see relief with the introduction of a modern, sensor-based parking system by late 2025. Funded by the Smart Cities program and the Recovery Fund, the project will add 800 general-use parking spots, 400 reserved for residents, and enforce no-parking zones using advanced sensors.
The initiative will also deploy 30 new municipal police officers to ensure compliance with parking regulations. The system aims to bring order to the city center and surrounding areas, addressing long-standing issues with parking availability and enforcement.
As part of the Smart Cities initiative, the project will identify high-demand parking zones and implement smart technology to monitor and manage parking more effectively.
