The Altea City Council has completed the deployment of a LoRaWAN network, extending coverage across the entire municipality. This initiative, part of the 2022 Sustainable Tourism Plan, aims to enhance data collection for urban management and enable the remote reading of water meters.
Implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and Turisme de la Generalitat Valenciana, the project supports sustainability and modernization efforts, with nearly €4 million allocated for improvements. The network now includes 25 new access points, supplementing the five existing ones, ensuring connectivity even in remote areas with challenging terrain. Plans are also in place to install seven additional points to address potential coverage gaps.
The network facilitates real-time data collection from IoT devices, monitoring air quality, noise levels, waste container fill levels, fire detection, tourist footfall, and availability of accessible parking spaces. It also lays the foundation for integrating the municipality’s 18,000 water meters smart water meters, enhancing efficiency in resource management.
