The rollout makes Rancho Cordova the latest California municipality to adopt City Detect’s computer vision platform, following Stockton’s 2024 pilot, as cities facing code enforcement staffing shortages turn to automated detection to supplement shrinking inspection teams.
A Camera System Built For Continuous Citywide Coverage
The cameras are mounted on code enforcement vehicles and capture imagery continuously as officers conduct their normal patrols, rather than requiring dedicated inspection routes. Ducharme described the system as recording data while vehicles move at typical street speeds, allowing coverage to scale without adding staff. City Detect’s underlying product, marketed as PASS AI, applies computer vision models trained to recognize categories such as overgrown vegetation, debris, improperly parked vehicles, boarded windows and illegal dumping, based on the company’s description of its code enforcement tools.

The City of Dallas approved a three-year, roughly $2.6 million contract to mount City Detect cameras on 50 waste collection trucks, while Dallas Free Press reported the city’s code compliance department is targeting a January 2026 operational start for a separate vehicle-camera partnership with the company. The company disclosed a $13 million funding round earlier in 2026 to expand its computer vision platform, according to reporting on the raise, and says its imagery pipeline automatically blurs faces and license plates before analysis.

Rancho Cordova’s code enforcement cameras arrive as the city is separately facing organized resident opposition to a different camera network.
