The Villaquilambre City Council has approved two energy efficiency projects totaling €3.1 million, aiming to reduce municipal energy costs by 60%.
The larger project, with a budget of €2.6 million, involves replacing 2,207 streetlights with high-efficiency LED fixtures, upgrading electrical systems, and implementing a remote management system. The initiative is expected to cut energy consumption by 61.79%, saving approximately €200,000 annually. Work will take 10 months once contracted.
A second project focuses on the Navatejera sports center, where a €522,000 upgrade will install an aerothermal system, improve existing solar panels, and add a 100 kW photovoltaic system. Half of the funding comes from Spain’s Superior Sports Council. The improvements are projected to reduce the facility’s energy bills by 58%.
Both projects are part of the city’s 2025 budget and are now listed on the state procurement portal.
