Scope Covers Poles, Fixtures And Remote Control Modules
The contract calls for replacing existing lighting poles and fixtures across the 22 affected streets, which run through the old town core of Playa Blanca. It also includes installing communication modules that will allow the council to remotely manage lighting operation, adjusting run times to actual usage patterns rather than fixed schedules. The council frames the upgrade as addressing maintenance, functional and aesthetic requirements simultaneously, while improving visibility for drivers and pedestrians in the affected streets.
Energy Savings And Light Pollution Are The Stated Drivers
The municipality expects the switch to LED technology to cut electricity consumption in the affected streets by roughly half, since LED fixtures require less power to produce equivalent light output than the units they replace. Remote management is also expected to extend the working life of the new fixtures and reduce light pollution by fine-tuning operating hours to real conditions rather than running at fixed intensity throughout the night. Officials have not published a projected annual savings figure in euros for this specific contract.
Part Of A Broader Municipal Lighting Renewal Program
Yaiza has run a rolling public lighting modernization effort in Playa Blanca for several years, and this tender extends rather than launches that program. Earlier phases included the replacement of 392 lampposts in the Castillo del Águila development, financed with 144,000 euros in European funds tied to the Soy Canarias Green initiative promoted by the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands. In June 2026 the council also renewed roughly 45 fixtures on the central Calle Limones using 27,000 euros in municipal funds, following prior work in the Avenida Papagayo and San Marcial del Rubicón areas.
