Network operator TIM has been contracted by IP Canoas, a public lighting concessionaire, to implement smart lighting technology in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul. The project, part of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), involves upgrading over 30,000 lighting points in strategic areas, with completion expected by June.

The initiative will use TIM’s 4G NB-IoT network to connect smart streetlights, enabling real-time monitoring of energy consumption, brightness control, and preventive maintenance. The solution aims to reduce operational costs and improve urban infrastructure.

Connected luminaires will collect and transmit data to a cloud-based platform, providing insights into maintenance needs and operational efficiency. Features include dimming capabilities, predictive maintenance, and geolocation for better asset management.

TIM, the only operator with INMETRO-certified equipment, has deployed over 340,000 smart lighting points across Brazil. The project supports the development of smart cities and paves the way for further digital transformation in the region.

Canoas, heavily impacted by floods in 2024, will become one of the first mid-sized cities in Brazil with fully modernized, remotely managed public lighting.
