Salvador in Brazil, to Install Smart Lighting System with 5G and Wi-Fi

The city of Salvador, capital of Bahia, Brazil, will install 400 smart streetlights equipped with 5G connectivity, cameras, and Wi-Fi. The project, funded by a €5.4 million (R$30 million) budget from public lighting fees, aims to improve urban infrastructure.

The lights, produced by Israeli company Juganu, use Qualcomm chipsets and are already operational in other Brazilian cities. Salvador will be the first Brazilian capital to adopt this technology. The system is expected to enhance 5G coverage by serving as additional signal distribution points, benefiting telecom operators. Municipalities may also generate revenue through partnerships with service providers.
