In Spain, Kapsch TrafficCom has completed the installation of a bus traffic light priority system in Madrid, a project with which travel time between the Valdebebas neighbourhood and the Ramón y Cajal Hospital has gone from 50 minutes to under 30. The system operates via on-board beacons and pavement loops that automatically signal traffic lights to favour buses. Kapsch supplied 62 traffic light controllers, 10 CCTV cameras, and a communications network for this project. The initiative is part of Kapsch’s broader collaboration with Madrid City Council to improve mobility and reduce congestion and pollution.
