German energy company EnBW has acquired enersis, a swiss company specializing in digital twins for the energy sector, to strengthen its in-house tech capabilities, particularly in smart grids. enersis’ gaia platform, which provides real-time digital models of energy networks, is used by over 1,900 municipalities in Germany and Switzerland for tasks like CO2 accounting, renewable energy planning, and municipal heat management.
EnBW already worked with enersis on the KommunalPlatform, a digital interface for municipalities. The acquisition should allow enersis to enhance its product portfolio, especially in network planning and concession management. Enersis will continue operating independently as a 100% subsidiary, with its offices in Berlin and Bern retained. The purchase price was not disclosed.
