Temple University has partnered with ZeroEyes to integrate AI weapon detection software into its 1,500 security cameras, boosting campus safety for its 30,000 students. The software, developed by Navy SEALs and technologists, uses “human-verified visual gun detection” to alert Temple police in near real-time with threat details and camera locations.
This marks the first university in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to adopt such a system with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act Designation. ZeroEyes ensures no facial recognition is used unless during active shooter incidents.
Funded by a state crime commission grant, the software costs under $600 per detection point annually, reinforcing Temple’s layered approach to campus safety.
