Châlons-en-Champagne is introducing smart parking sensors as part of its “Connecte Châlons” smart city initiative. The sensors, installed at Place Godart and the covered market parking lot, detect vehicle presence using magnetic beacons embedded in the ground.
Work began on April 14, 2025, and is expected to conclude by April 18, temporarily disrupting parking availability. A total of 91 sensors are being installed by local firm Colas, with data managed by Bouygues Energies & Services.
The system will track parking occupancy and eventually provide real-time updates on available spaces via the Connecte Châlons mobile app. The broader smart city project, launched in July 2023, includes upgrades to public lighting, heating, and security, with investments totaling €35.5 million across four municipalities.
Currently, the app only displays parking locations, but future updates aim to improve parking efficiency.
