Sacramento has become the first U.S. city to implement bus-mounted automated enforcement technology targeting vehicles illegally parked in bike lanes. The system, developed in collaboration with Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) and the City of Sacramento, uses AI-powered cameras to improve road safety for cyclists.
The technology, provided by Hayden AI and supported by Duncan Solutions, aims to enhance cyclist safety and traffic flow. The initiative expands on an existing bus stop enforcement program, now equipping 100 SacRT buses with cameras to detect violations. Starting this week, drivers will receive warnings, with fines taking effect on June 13.
The cameras capture video and images of obstructing vehicles, including license plates, timestamps, and locations. Data is reviewed by city officials before citations are issued.
