Mallorca’s Playa de Palma is deploying a new AI-powered surveillance system as part of the “Setur” security project, backed by €6 million in tourist tax funding.
Fifteen high-resolution cameras with computer vision and deep learning capabilities will monitor six kilometers of coastline between Can Pastilla and Arenal, the area identified as a key hotspot for public safety concerns.
Designed to detect predefined suspicious behavior—such as loitering or carrying weapons—these AI cameras interpret real-time events and generate automated alerts.
The system will also include four drones and eight police vehicles. All devices are positioned strategically to maximize coverage and minimize vandalism, with a particular focus on nighttime beach thefts. Vendors for the AI technologies have not been disclosed.
