National Highways is investing £15.4m to modernize and expand its network of road weather stations across England. In partnership with Vaisala, the project aims to upgrade 125 weather stations by 2025 and introduce around 100 additional ones between 2025 and 2030. The new stations, with advanced atmospheric and road sensors, are to provide real-time data on road conditions. This shift from domain-based to route-based data collection is set to capture road weather information for better road safety and more effective decision-making and maintenance operations.
