The City of Madison has begun installing 65 air quality monitors throughout the city, focusing on tracking particulate matter like dust and dirt, which can have both short-term and long-term health impacts.
Funded by a $429,746 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Enhanced Air Quality Monitoring for Communities program, the initiative aims to educate the community and identify potential disparities in air quality across different areas. While these monitors are not regulatory and will not lead directly to policy changes, they can encourage important conversations and awareness.
The goal is to install all monitors by the end of the year. Although sensors from QuantAQ have been spotted as part of this initiative, it is unclear if all the monitors will be from the same provider.
