A  pilot project introducing autonomous driving to public transport is set to begin in the Furttal region of the canton of Zurich in spring 2025. The initiative aims to enhance mobility in rural areas and strengthen connections to existing public transport networks.

Collaborating with the Canton of Zurich, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), and the Swiss Transit Lab, the project will deploy Nissan vehicles equipped with WeRide’s automated driving technology. Passengers will be able to book rides through a dedicated app developed by ioki, a leading European digital mobility company. This app seamlessly integrates with the current public transport system, allowing for efficient booking and route planning of the autonomous vehicles.

For more information about the project, visit the Swiss Transit Lab website.
