Speed cameras are already in place across the metro, but Albuquerque’s efforts to implement a noise-monitoring system for loud vehicles have faced delays for years. Now, the city plans to restart the initiative with a new company.
The issue of excessive engine noise has long frustrated residents, prompting calls for action. Nearly three years ago, a resolution was passed to develop a noise camera pilot program, but progress stalled despite some initial testing.
Recently, city officials faced questions over the lack of results. A new pilot project, using technology from a Dutch company (Name has not been disclosed), is expected to launch by the end of summer. The system, which has been used in other areas, will involve three cameras, though costs are still being reviewed. The Albuquerque Police Department will also participate in the trial.
While some officials expressed frustration over delays, they acknowledged the need to move forward with the long-awaited initiative.
