RATP Group, France’s third-largest urban transport operator, has selected Bouygues Energies & Services to deploy electric vehicle charging infrastructure across approximately 60 sites in the Île-de-France region. The five-year renewable contract, valued at €6 million, supports the transit operator’s electrification of its 1,300 light-vehicle service fleet.
Phased Deployment Across Greater Paris Region
Installation work will commence in January 2026 with 15 sites already prepared for charging equipment. The contract covers the design, installation, supervision, and maintenance of over 550 charging points distributed across workshops, internal parking facilities, and administrative centers in the inner and outer suburbs of Paris. EPI Etudes et Projets Industriels will conduct site assessments for locations requiring pre-installation studies, identifying optimal charging point placements and establishing detailed implementation schedules.
Fleet Electrification Progress And Scale
RATP currently operates 246 fully electric vehicles within its Île-de-France service fleet and began its 100% electric conversion approximately one year ago. The charging infrastructure deployment represents a critical step in transitioning all 1,300 light vehicles used for technical and administrative operations across the region, where RATP has operated one of the world’s densest multimodal networks for 75 years. Individual sites will receive between 3 and 90 charging points depending on size and vehicle capacity requirements.
Technical Implementation And Management Systems
All charging stations will utilize alternating current (AC) technology, enabling vehicle charging during 3-4 hour stationary periods at operational sites. Bouygues Energies & Services will manage the infrastructure through its Alizé platform, which provides remote monitoring, energy consumption tracking, and predictive maintenance alerts. The contractor brings experience with over 30,000 charging stations installed across France and more than 20,000 charging points under active supervision.
Strategic Partnership Context
The consortium led by Bouygues Energies & Services, an entity of Equans France, includes EPI Etudes et Projets Industriels as engineering partner. The agreement may extend to additional RATP Group sites throughout France beyond the initial Île-de-France deployment. RATP Real Estate, the Group’s property subsidiary, supports the project’s infrastructure requirements.
Industry Context And Broader Electrification Efforts
This contract aligns with RATP’s comprehensive energy transition strategy, which includes the Bus2025 program targeting 100% clean bus fleets (electric, biomethane, and hybrid) by 2025. The broader initiative aims for 20% reduction in energy consumption per passenger-kilometer and 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions between 2015 and 2025. RATP’s approach reflects growing momentum in fleet electrification, with industry surveys indicating 64% of fleet operators already incorporating EVs and 87% planning electrification within five years.
