Oakland County Secures $2M for Smart Intersection Safety Study

The Oakland County Road Commission has secured a $2 million SMART streets grant for a traffic safety study aimed at making intersections safer through a connected vehicle system. With the system, intersections will be equipped with sensors to detect vehicles and pedestrians, both of which will also receive safety alerts. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the initiative is one of six connected vehicle programs across the U.S. The technology is to help prevent accidents by providing real-time alerts and assisting driverless cars in navigating intersections.
