Belgium is cracking down on noisy drivers by planning to install “noise cameras” in Brussels and Gent. These roadside microphones will detect vehicles exceeding the 95-decibel limit and capture their number plates, like speed cameras. This initiative follows numerous complaints about loud modified cars and mopeds. Authorities are looking to pilot projects in the Netherlands and France, where similar systems are either being tested or awaiting legal approval. The goal is to reduce noise pollution and improve quality of life by efficiently penalizing violators. The cost of implementing these systems is yet to be disclosed. Offending motorists will face fines, potentially around €90, like those proposed in France.
