EU Allocates €86 Million for Climate Resilience and Water Projects

The European Commission has approved €86 million in funding for Strategic Integrated Projects aimed at enhancing water security, reducing pollution, and improving climate resilience across Europe. The investment supports initiatives in Denmark, Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, and Iceland, helping implement EU environmental and climate goals.

The projects are expected to leverage additional funding from EU agricultural, regional, and research budgets, as well as national and private sources. Key initiatives include:

  • Denmark: LIFE ACT, €17 million to cut municipal CO₂ emissions by 75% and strengthen 2,900 km of coastline by 2050.
  • Estonia:  LIFE SIP WET-EST €17.9 million to improve water quality and restore ecosystems in the Western Estonian river basin.
  • Poland: €13.1 million to boost recycling rates to 65% and reduce landfill waste to 10% by 2035 in the Pomorskie region.
  • Slovenia: LIFE4ADAPT €14.2 million for drought, fire, and flood resilience measures.
  • Iceland: LIFE ICEWATER €23.8 million to promote sustainable water use.

Additionally, the Commission adopted the 2025-2027  LIFE Programme work programme, allocating €2.3 billion for climate, energy, and biodiversity projects. The funding supports Europe’s transition to a climate-neutral economy by 2050.
